What you read is what you are, if you reading nothing, you are nothing. Your reading habit explains the nature of your personality, your thinking, your capability to garner new ideas, change, worldview et al.
The basic propellant to educate oneself is to get a job and as reading is a critical element of education, this relationship remains nebulous and finally gets sapped, as you step into your first job. What an irony!
Everybody reads. To get sleep, while having tea, if getting bored, if nothing to do and to fill the void we have modern variants of yellow pages and certainly ads. The quality of your reading is dependent* on nature of the reading material, primary – a seminal book, research, secondary – well founded analysis, editorials, empirical surveys/findings, tertiary – daily run of mill reads and finally the super tertiary social media, where propaganda is the fuel and has the ultimate cult like following.
Books have always made a difference to our lives in more way than one, ideas being the primary donna. Ideas have changed lives and will keep on doing so till eternity. In the process you also become ideational. Thinking differently on strength of knowledge can have a genesis here.
Reading is not a newscasters game. Assimilation is the key, analysis follows and finally translates into workable knowledge there to stay, which manifests in a vivid and vibrant manner in all aspects of your work and life. If makes you fascinating, something to offer, a capability to make a difference.
On a lighter but sensible note staying mentally stimulated can slow the progress of “Alzheimer’s” &” Dementia” or possibly prevent, as the brain remains quite active.
